The People They Trusted to Care for Them Didn't Want to Hear Them Bark... So Had Their Vocal Cords Cut and Gave Them Up Anyway!
URGENT: Act NOW to Save the Legislation That Would Ban Devocalization, an Act of Cruelty, in NYS!
Please Make 1 Call During Business Hours, June 1 (preferably) or June 4
Otherwise, This Humane Law Could Die June 5.

If Your NYS Senator (Albany, not Washington) is on the committee, please call him/her immediately! Scroll down for the list.

POLITELY SAY: "I'm a constituent and I'd like the Senator to release Senate Bill 6167B, banning devocalization of dogs and cats, favorably from Agriculture on June 5. This humane legislation deserves a chance for a vote by the entire Senate. It's very important to me, so I'll be following it!"
BACKGROUND On June 5, the NYS Senate Agriculture Committee will hold its last meeting of the 2011-12 session. If the committee doesn't vote on and favorably release the devocalization ban at this meeting, there's no way it can become law.
And dogs and cats will continue to have their vocal cords cut for their owner's convenience or a vet's greed.
They'll continue to suffer lifelong anguish or agonizing death even when this needless surgery is performed by an experienced vet in the least invasive way.
The "lucky" ones struggle to breathe and cough persistently the rest of their lives. Others choke to death, suffer heatstroke even in mild weather, or die of pneumonia after inhaling food, water or vomit into their lungs.
And for what? Devocalization doesn't even assure animals a secure home.
Devocalization is illegal in many countries. In 2010, Massachusetts outlawed it too. It's time for New York State to step up.
